Perhaps the most poignant of our categories – and another one dedicated to my daughter. I don’t understand animal brutality. Well, I don’t understand ANY brutality – but for little people and pretty much helpless animals, I can’t comprehend it. On the flip side, I’m grateful to know so many wonderful people who rush to the rescue. My friend’s husband once drove from Illinois to Pennsylvania and back in one day to pick up a rescue dog that no one would want. Homely; unhealthy; destitute. They took him in. She also volunteers at the non-kill shelter and anywhere else she can save a pet. My daughter is equally animal-smitten. Among other creatures, we raised a snapping turtle from the time it was the size of a quarter to the size of a basketball. As you can imagine, the aquariums just kept getting bigger 🙂 Finally, it was time to let her go to the wild and we contacted a wildlife prairie park near us. Thye had the perfect pond for her so we set her free. We cried as she slunk slowly into the water until her head was just breaching the surface; watching us as we wished her well and walked away. I imagine you’re rolling your eyes thinking “a reptile?” 😀 I get it. But please do post below whatever before and after pet rescue pics you have of your own. We’d love to see them and celebrate with you!
